We accept people in from the age of 14. Upperlimits do not exist, as long as you reasonably fit and healthy you can take part.
We train on the water all year round, in all weathers as long as the conditions are considered safe. Training in the boat consists of a mixture of technique work, practice races and endurance training. During the winter months we continue to train on the water on Sunday but replace Wednesday night water sessions with a circuit session at a local sports hall.
The club usually enters between seven and ten race events during the year leading up to the National Finals held at Holme Pierrepoint in Nottingham. Most races are held on a Sunday, with the National Finals being a two day event held usually on the last Saturday and Sunday in September.
Races take place in various locations around the country. In recent years the club has attended races in St Neots, Liverpool, London, Exeter, Nottingham, Worcester, Preston, Milton Keynes, Bristol, Stockton and Cardiff. The team usually travels down early on the morning of the race day, returning home after the event, which usually finishes around 5.00pm. Events that are slightly further afield, for events such as Exeter, we’ll usually go down a day or two before the event and stay at a local campsite, making it a very enjoyable social weekend. We also try and make a long weekend of the National Finals stopping at a very nice hotel just out side Nottingham
The captain obviously tries to pick teams that will win! However, he will always ensure everyone gets the opportunity to compete in a race at each event the club attends. Most race events consist of around six races during the course of the day, so there is plenty of opportunity for every paddler to race.
Simple! All you need to do is contact a member of the clubs committee, details of which can be found on the best online pharmacy to buy isotretinoin page, or equally you can fill out the correspondence form found on the contact us page and we’ll arrange for you come to a session.
Dragon Boating with Cool Runnings is relatively cheap, Here is a break down of the costs. Every member of the team has to pay.

  • £15 a year to become a member
  • £35 a year to join the BDA. This makes you a member of the British DragonBoat Association and is for members who wish to race as well as train.
  • £15 as monthly subs payable by direct debit to Cool Runnings. This covers boat storage fee’s, race entry fee’s, insurance and other general running costs the club incurs. It also provides you with the loan of a paddle and life jacket all the while you need it! (most people eventually purchase their own equipment)
